This season has been a catastrophe from an environmental viewpoint with the River Wye bursting its banks seven times since September. We are used to it once and sometimes twice a season but seven times is exceptional and the recent flooding has been at record recorded levels.
We have done what we can to keep the children and teams playing but the recent round of flooding has been so drastic it has covered our dugouts, goals and for first time ever reached our clubhouse. Later this week when the water subsides our volunteers have the unenviable task of opening the doors of the clubhouse to see what damage has been done. Since taking over the clubhouse from the local council in 2011 the club has worked tirelessly to improve the clubhouse. New flooring, seating, tables and decorations have gone in. The kitchen has been renovated as have the toilets and changing rooms. The club alongside the CIC members have worked hard to raise funds through events to self fund all refurbishments.
From many a visiting side we have had many compliments about our ground and clubhouse in particular. Now we must go again once we assess the damage. We are hoping to put some volunteer work days on very shortly and would like our many club members, the local community who also use the facility, dog walkers, Parkrun, Petanque and the Cricket Club to all come together and help out. Many hands will make light work and hopefully go along way to getting the sports
